Meser10 SMS for WooCommerce: setup guide

Meser10 SMS for WooCommerce texts your customer when their order changes status, and texts you when a new order arrives, through your Meser 10 account. An order email can sit unread for a day; a text is read in minutes.

What it does

  • One message template per WooCommerce order status, in your own words. Statuses you leave empty send nothing.
  • An optional alert to your own phone when a new order comes in.
  • A note on the order recording that the text went, and to which masked number.
  • A test send, so the credentials and the sender name can be proved before a customer is involved.
  • A log of recent messages, showing the outcome and never the message body.

What it deliberately will not do

  • It never sends the same message twice for the same order and status, however many times WooCommerce fires the hook.
  • It never texts customers about orders placed before you first switched sending on, so turning it on does not reach a backlog.
  • It rejects a phone number it cannot read as a mobile, rather than reshaping it into one that might belong to a stranger.

Before you start

You need WooCommerce, a Meser 10 account with SMS enabled, and two details from that account: the API key and the numeric User ID. Sending needs both. A sender name has to be approved on the Meser 10 side before it shows on the handset instead of a number.

Installation and setup

  1. Install and activate the plugin. WooCommerce has to be active.
  2. Go to WooCommerce → Meser 10 SMS.
  3. Enter the API key and User ID from your Meser 10 account.
  4. Send a test message to your own phone.
  5. Write a message for each order status you want customers told about.
  6. Switch Send messages on.

The plugin is being submitted to the WordPress.org plugin directory. Until it is listed there, contact us and we will send you the installation file.

Placeholders

  • {site_name} – the name of this site
  • {order_number} – the order number as the customer sees it
  • {first_name} / {last_name} – billing name
  • {total} – order total, with the currency symbol
  • {status} – the new order status, in words
  • {item_count} – how many items are in the order
  • {order_url} – a link the customer can open to view the order

Example: Hi {first_name}, order {order_number} is on its way. Details: {order_url}

Messages are charged per segment by Meser 10. A message in Hebrew or with an emoji fits 70 characters per segment rather than 160, so the settings screen shows the segment count under every template.

Consent

Order status updates are usually treated as service messages rather than marketing, but the rule differs by country. A setting restricts sending to customers who ticked a consent box at checkout, for shops whose rules require it.

FAQ

Does it send marketing campaigns? No. It sends one message per order event. Campaigns are sent from Meser 10 itself.

Which numbers does it send to? Israeli mobile numbers. A number it cannot read as one is skipped, and the reason is written to the log and to the order notes.

What happens if a message fails? The order gets a note saying why, and the log records the outcome. Nothing is retried automatically, so a failure cannot turn into a loop of charged messages.
